HAPPENING NOW: Demolition of the existing reservoirs began in December 2017 and was completed in Spring of 2018. Grading activities for the two tanks began after demolition in order to move earth and make way for the tank foundations. The rough grading for tank construction is scheduled to be completed in September of 2018. The foundation piles for the two new tanks were installed in the summer of 2018. In the next phase of construction, the tank builder will mobilize to the site and will begin construction of the two post-tensioned concrete water storage tanks. Once the tank construction activities are underway there will be a noticeable increase in truck traffic due to the amount of concrete that is needed to construct the tanks.
This project was originally scheduled to take three years to complete and the tanks were going to be built sequentially. SJW has worked with the general contractor to come up with a way to build the two tanks concurrently. This has reduced the duration of construction and per the current schedule the project will reach substantial completion with both tanks being operational by February 2020. Once complete, the Belgatos Tanks will provide 4.74 million gallons of potable water storage to the surrounding community.
